Mantra: Kids See Ghosts’s “Reborn”

This song holds a precious, special place in my memories. My girlfriend and I were both severely depressed at the time. While the issues in our relationship only contributed to our depressions (and vice-versa), at the same time we were there for each other. Comforting each other, however we could in those trying times. There were many nights we stayed up late tortured by our anxieties, holding each other in tears while repeating the meditative words to this chorus.

I’m so I’m so reborn. I’m moving forward.
Keep moving forward, keep moving forward.
Ain’t no stress on me Lord, I’m moving forward.
Keep moving forward, keep moving forward.
I’m so I’m so reborn. I’m moving forward.
Keep moving forward, keep moving forward.
Ain’t no stress on me Lord, I’m moving forward.
Keep moving forward, keep moving forward.
”

Those times were so dark and desperate. Neither of us could find our way through that darkness. So we held each other, arms wrapped around each other holding on for dear life. And without any sort of conscious thought, I would start humming the melody to this chorus.

“I’m so I’m so reborn.
Keep moving forward, keep moving forward.”

Perhaps the repetitive phrasing in this chorus acted as a mantra – grounding us to this earth and away from our darkest thought patterns. The marching-like percussive cadence – providing a rhythm to, as the chorus suggests, “keep moving forward.” In classic Cudder fashion, he provided us with a lifeline to hold on to when we needed it the most. My appreciation to Kid Cudi, Ye, and everybody involved with the production of that song has no boundaries.

Thank you so very much. I probably sang this off-pitch.
